Prepare for your DIRECTV installation
Getting new DIRECTV service? Learn how to check your order status and get ready for your installation.
INSTRUCTIONS & INFO
Get ready for DIRECTV
We want your installation to be as stress-free as possible. If something comes up, it’s easy to change or cancel your appointment.
- Make sure someone 18 or older is available for the entire installation. It usually takes about 5 hours.
- Have a TV in each room the service will be connected. For the best experience, have active internet or phone service in place, too.
- Provide easy access to your roof or balcony. For the best reception, DIRECTV dishes require a clear view of the southern sky. We usually install the dish on the side of your house or near the roof line.
- Complete the Landlord Approval Form (PDF, 107KB) with your landlord or homeowner’s association (HOA), if you rent.
- Don’t cancel your current service until we install your new service.

Appointment info
- If you chose to get text alerts, we’ll send you a reminder text 24-hours before and on the day of your appointment.
- On appointment day, use our Tech Tracker to view your tech’s location info. Check your order status and sign in with your account number and ZIP Code. Your tech will call you when they’re on the way.
- The tech will activate your service and show you how to use your new equipment. If you ordered an HD DVR, your tech will connect it to the internet at no extra charge.
- A distance of 4-feet is recommended between wireless devices and DIRECTV receivers.
Our techs can't move TVs or furniture, so make sure wall outlets and other areas are easy to access.
Custom installation work
Sometimes, your tech will have to do specialized work that costs extra. Examples are changing phone lines, audio or visual equipment, extra equipment, and cabling. The tech will give you a Custom Work Rate Sheet explaining the work and cost. After you review and sign, you'll pay the tech directly. You won't see these charges on your bill.
