Frequently asked questions


DIRECTV TECH PROTECT is only available to DIRECTV via Internet and DIRECTV STREAM customers. If you are a DIRECTV via Internet customer or a DIRECTV STREAM customer, you can purchase a plan in minutes by logging into your account.

On your Account Overview page, you’ll see a tile titled “Are you protected?” Select PROTECT YOUR GEAR to open the DIRECTV TECH PROTECT page. Then select the plan that’s best for you—we’ll guide you through the simple sign-up process.


DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plans are month-to-month and will continue until canceled by you or by DIRECTV. The price of your plan will be added to your monthly DIRECTV bill and are collected one month in advance.

  • DIRECTV devices and remote controls are not covered by DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plans. These items may be covered by DIRECTV warranty.
  • Pre-existing conditions or damage are excluded.

You can switch between DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plans at any time. When you switch, tech support will continue to be available. However, there will be a 30-day waiting period before claims for breakdown or damage can be made.

Your TECH PROTECT subscription renews each month until canceled. To cancel, visit http://www.directv.com/accountoverview or call 1-844-258-6993.

If you cancel your DIRECTV account, we’ll automatically cancel your DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plan for you. Your coverage will continue until the end of your regular billing cycle.

When your DIRECTV account is paused, Assurant will cancel your DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plan. On resuming services, you will be reenrolled in a new DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plan. 
 

After you are re-enrolled, you’ll receive a new welcome package from Assurant. Tech support will be available immediately. However, there will be a 30-day waiting period before claims for breakdown or damage can be made. 

You have the option to cancel the plan from your account services page while in pause period to avoid enrollment in a new plan when service resumes.


If your DIRECTV account is involuntarily suspended, Assurant will cancel your DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plan. On resuming services, you will be able to reenroll in a new DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plan. After Assurant enrolls you, tech support will be available immediately. However, there will be a 30-day waiting period before claims for breakdown or damage can be made. You have the option to cancel the plan from your account services page after enrollment.
