If your DIRECTV satellite account is in good standing and you’ve had it for at least two months, putting your service on temporary hold can be a great way to deal with life events like extended vacations, military deployment, relocation, or financial or personal reasons.

There’s no fee to suspend your account—and when you come back, you won’t have to reinstall equipment or undergo a credit check.

How to suspend DIRECTV service

Important information

  • Suspensions must be between 30 days and 9 months.
  • Some accounts with special offers can’t suspend.
  • You can’t suspend if you have a balance due.
  • We extend your service agreement so you pick up where you left off when you come back . For instance, if you have six months left on your agreement when you suspend, you will still have six months left on your agreement when your service resumes.
  • Any recurring or promo credits will be cancelled.
  • If you have a sports subscription, you’ll still be responsible for the installment payments.
  • If you have a third-party subscription like Netflix or Peacock through DIRECTV, it will be canceled.
  • Other conditions may apply. Your agent will fill you in.

It’s easy for qualified DIRECTV via internet customers to pause their account for up to three months. If you’re eligible, it’s a great alternative to canceling your account.

Who can pause DIRECTV service?
Most DIRECTV via internet customers whose accounts are in good standing can easily pause their accounts for 1, 2, or 3 months. To see if you’re eligible, simply log in to your account.

How to pause

  • Go to Manage my TV Package.
  • If you’re eligible to pause online, you’ll see a “Pause my service” link at the top of the “Manage my TV Package” page.
  • Select the “Pause my service” link and follow the prompts.
  • If you don’t see a “Pause my service” link, call 800-531-5000.

When will my pause start?
Your pause will begin on the first day of your next billing cycle. You can watch and use your DIRECTV service regularly until then.

What happens when my service is paused?

  • You won’t be charged.
  • You won’t be able to watch DIRECTV.
  • You won’t be able to access your DVRs.
  • You can add or remove premium channels and change your TV package. Changes you make will start automatically once your pause ends.
  • You can shorten or extend the length of your pause (up to the 3-month maximum).
  • You can restart your service at any time.
  • You can cancel your service completely at any time.
What happens when my service pause is over?
  • Your service will resume automatically.
  • You’ll be billed automatically from your payment method on file.
  • Any changes you made to your base TV package or add-ons will take effect.
  • You’ll be able to access your previous DVR recordings and make new ones.
