DIRECTV TECH PROTECT offers via internet customers coverage for a wide variety of home tech devices
DIRECTV TECH PROTECT offers two plans to DIRECTV via internet customers that cover many home technology devices.
The plans, which are administered by Assurant, cover items like TVs, desktop and laptop computers, tablets, and more.
To make the plans convenient, customers can sign up for coverage right from their DIRECTV account, and payments will be added to their monthly DIRECTV bill.
How do I get a DIRECTV TECH PROTECT PLAN?
DIRECTV TECH PROTECT is only available to DIRECTV customers who receive their service via internet connection. If you are a DIRECTV via internet customer, you can purchase a plan in minutes by logging into your account.
On your Account Overview page, you’ll see a tile titled “Are you protected?” Select PROTECT YOUR GEAR to open the DIRECTV TECH PROTECT page. Then select the plan that’s best for you—we’ll guide you through the simple sign-up process.
How will I be billed?
DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plans are month-to-month and will continue until canceled by you or by DIRECTV. The price of your plan will be added to your monthly DIRECTV bill and are collected one month in advance.
What are some highlights of the plans?

Basic tier:
- Live support including device setup, troubleshooting, and home wi-fi optimization—all available immediately.
- Covers audio/video, TVs, home theater, laptops, desktops, tablets, peripherals, routers, modems, and more.
- Unlimited number of devices.
- Low $99 deductible—$2,000 annual claim limit, $1,500 per occurance.
- 30-day waiting period to file a claim for breakdowns.
Premium tier:

- Unlimited number of devices.

- Also covers accidental damage from handling for specific covered items.
Are there exclusions or waiting periods for coverage?
- Both plans require a 30-day waiting period to make claims for covered items.
- The basic tier plan does not cover accidental damage from handling.
- DIRECTV receivers and remote controls are not covered by DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plans. These items may be covered by DIRECTV warranty.

Can I switch between plans?
You can switch between DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plans at any time. When you switch, tech support will be available immediately. However, there will be a 30-day waiting period before claims for breakdowns or damage can be made.
What happens if I cancel my DIRECTV account?
If you cancel your DIRECTV account, we’ll automatically cancel your DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plan for you. Your coverage will continue until the end of your regular billing cycle.
What happens if I pause my DIRECTV account?
When your DIRECTV account is paused, Assurant will cancel your DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plan. On resuming services, you will be enrolled in a new DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plan.
After you are re-enrolled, you’ll receive a new welcome package from Assurant. Tech support will be available immediately. However, there will be a 30-day waiting period before claims for breakdowns or damage can be made.
You have the option to cancel the plan from your account services page while in pause period to avoid enrollment in a new plan when service resumes.
What happens if my DIRECTV account is involuntarily suspended for late payment?
If your DIRECTV account is involuntarily suspended, Assurant will cancel your DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plan. On resuming services, you will be enrolled in a new DIRECTV TECH PROTECT plan.
After Assurant enrolls you, tech support will be available immediately. However, there will be a 30-day waiting period before claims for breakdowns or damage can be made.
You have the option to cancel the plan from your account services page after enrollment.
