Using Descriptive Video Service with a Satellite dish

Your DIRECTV® service includes Descriptive Video Service (DVS) when it’s available. You can activate DVS using the onscreen menu.

Temporarily change video descriptions on a channel

  1. Press INFO on your remote.
  2. Press the "up arrow" for three seconds. If audio description is available, it will now be enabled.
Heads up: The language will go back to English when you change the channel.
 

Change video descriptions on all channels

  1. Press MENU on your remote.
  2. Press the down arrow until you get to Settings and then press SELECT.
  3. Press the right arrow for Audio options.
  4. Press Language, then choose your preferred language and press SELECT.
  5. Press EXIT.

Using Descriptive Video Service with an Internet connection (no satellite)

Your DIRECTV service includes Descriptive Video Service (DVS) when it’s available. You can activate DVS using the on-screen menu. You can also select Spanish or other translations of English-language TV programs.

Temporarily change video descriptions on a channel

  1. Press Guide on your remote and select a channel.
  2. Select OK
  3. Scroll down to CC/Audio and select it for available options.
Heads up: The language will go back to English when you change the channel.
 

Change video descriptions on all channels

  1. Press the home button on your remote.
  2. Press the down arrow until you get to Settings and then select OK.
  3. Select Preferences and scroll to Audio Program.
  4. Choose your preferred language and press OK.
  5. Press EXIT.

DIRECTV DVS through other streaming devices

AppleTV: If you change the audio language option two or more times during a live playback session, your stream may freeze, go silent (no audio), or both for about 30 seconds. To fix, change the channel.

Roku: You’ll always see English listed as the main audio language option and Spanish as the alternate. This happens regardless of your actual languages.

Safari web browser: Selecting Alternate to access DVS Audio automatically turns on closed captioning. This happens even when closed captioning is checked off.
