Watch DIRECTV on Android TV and Chromecast TV
Set up, watch, and troubleshoot with the DIRECTV App on Google devices.
What you’ll need for Android TV
- Compatible Android TV device
- Wi-Fi connection
- Active Google account
- Active DIRECTV service
- DIRECTV App (available in the Google Play Store or on your Android TV)
Troubleshooting Android TV
Network and Internet issues
- Make sure you have a compatible device.
- Check your Wi-Fi connection.
- Close and restart the DIRECTV app.
- Check for DIRECTV app updates.
- Check for Android updates.
- Restart your device.
- Uninstall and reinstall the DIRECTV app.
Sound issues
- Make sure your device isn’t set to Silent mode.
- Check the audio volume on your device.
- With your TV remote (not the device remote), go to Settings.
- Navigate to the Audio or Sound section.
- Find your TV’s Digital Output Audio Format (this may be under advanced or expert settings).
- Switch the output to PCM.
What you'll need for Chromecast TV
- Compatible Google TV
- Wi-Fi connection
- Active Google Account
- Active DIRECTV account
- DIRECTV App (available in the Google Play Store or on your Android TV)
Using Chromecast TV from a computer
Make sure you have:- Compatible Chromecast device or TV with Chromecast built-in
- Latest version of the Chrome browser
- Wi-Fi connection
- DIRECTV account
- Connect your computer and TV to the same home Wi-Fi network.
- Go to DIRECTV in your Chrome browser and sign in.
- Select Tools (the 3 vertical dots) at the top-right corner of the browser.
- From the dropdown menu, select Cast.
- Choose the TV or device you want to cast to.
Using Chromecast TV from a mobile device
Make sure you have:- Compatible Chromecast device or TV with Chromecast built-in
- iOS or Android phone or tablet
- Wi-Fi connection
- Active DIRECTV account
- DIRECTV app
- Google Home app and a Google account
- Connect your TV and mobile device to the same home Wi-Fi network.
- Open the DIRECTV app on your mobile device.
- Select the show you want to watch.
- Tap the home screen and then the Cast icon.
- Choose the TV or device you want to cast to.
Settings > Privacy & Security
Location Services > DIRECTV permission with a minimum set to:
“While Using the App” > Checked
“Precise Location” > OFF
Local Network: DIRECTV > ON
Bluetooth: DIRECTV > ON

Troubleshooting Chromecast TV
Network and Internet issues
- Unplug the power cord for your Chromecast device for one minute, plug it back in, and restart the device.
- Check for updates to the DIRECTV STREAM and Google Home apps from the Google Play Store.
- Restart your Android or iOS device.
- Launch the Google Home app, choose Devices, and Stop Casting. Then, cast again.
- Try casting from another app. Launch the app and select Cast.
Synching issues
- Unplug the power cord for your Chromecast device for one minute and then plug it back in.
- Select Casting (top, right corner of your device screen). Your screen should refresh and your program display.
- Restart your device and then try casting from the app again.
Pairing and icon issues
- Unplug the power cord for your Chromecast device for one minute, plug it back in, and restart your Android or iOS device.
- Confirm your Android or iOS device is compatible with the DIRECTV App.
- Make sure your mobile device and Chromecast device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Close and reopen the DIRECTV and Google Home apps.
- Check for updates for your Android or iOS device.
Sound issues
- With your TV remote (not the device remote), go into Settings.
- Navigate to the Audio or Sound section.
- Find your TV’s Digital Output Audio Format (this may be under advanced or expert settings).
- Switch the output to PCM.
Heads up: Casting recorded cloud DVR content and trailer previews via Chromecast is not currently supported at this time.
