Vegas Golden Knights Rivalries
The Golden Knights have been met with immediate success, getting into the playoffs every year since their founding — a rare feat for an expansion team. That’s stirred up the pot in the Western Conference and generated more than one rivalry for Vegas. Here are three of their most fierce rivalries:
Vegas Golden Knights vs. San Jose Sharks
The rivalry with the Sharks is widely considered the Golden Knights’ biggest. It was ignited during Vegas’ inaugural season in the 2017-18 playoffs when the teams clashed in the second round. Things escalated in the 2019 playoffs after a controversial penalty in Game 7 allowed the Sharks to come back from a 3-0 deficit, leading to a heated series with multiple brawls and harsh words exchanged between players like Ryan Reaves and Evander Kane
Vegas and San Jose go head-to-head on:
- October 26 at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN+
- December 27 at 10:30 p.m. ET
- January 7, 2025 at 10:30 p.m. ET
Vegas Golden Knights vs. Los Angeles Kings
Another fierce rivalry, the Kings and Golden Knights’ competition has grown due to their geographical proximity and division placement. The two teams first met in the playoffs in 2018, with Vegas sweeping the Kings in four games. Since then, the rivalry has continued with regular-season matchups, fueled by both teams’ aspirations to dominate the Pacific Division.
The Golden Knights take on the Kings on:
- October 22 at 11 p.m. ET on ESPN, ESPN+
- October 30 at 10 p.m. ET or TNT, truTV, Max
- February 24, 2025 at 10:30 p.m.
- March 9, 2025 at 8 p.m. ET
Vegas Golden Knights vs. Edmonton Oilers
This newer rivalry has heated up in recent years, particularly after their playoff meeting in 2023. Key players like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl from the Oilers and the Golden Knights’ standout performances have added intensity to their matchups. The fierce competition for supremacy in the Western Conference keeps this rivalry evolving.
Vegas and Edmonton will meet on:
- November 6 at 8:30 p.m. ET
- December 3 at 10 p.m. on ESPN+, Hulu
- December 14 at 4 p.m. ET
- April 1 at 10 p.m. ET
