What is ‘Shifting Gears’ About?
Shifting Gears is a new sitcom about a stubborn widower named Matt (Tim Allen), who is the owner of a classic car repair shop. He finds that he has to shift gears quickly when his daughter Riley (Kat Dennings) shows up unexpectedly with her two kids, needing a place to stay while she gets her life back on track. With three generations under one roof, there’s sure to be some bumps in the road (and a whole lot of laughs) as they work on repairing their relationships.
In addition to starring in the new show, Tim Allen also serves as executive producer and Kat Dennings as producer on the sitcom. The half-hour pilot episode will premiere at the 8/7c timeslot right before a new episode of Abbott Elementary.

What is Tim Allen Known For?
Tim Allen became a household name as Tim “The Toolman” Taylor in Home Improvement, which aired on ABC from 1991 to 1999. He had another successful TV sitcom run as Mike Baxter in Last Man Standing, which ran from 2011 to 2021. Over the years, he’s starred in many movies, including Galaxy Quest, The Santa Clause trilogy, Christmas with the Kranks and more. He’s also become an iconic part of Disney as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Disney’s Toy Story movies. Dennings also starred as the character Jules Wiley in Hulu’s comedy series Dollface, which ran for two seasons.
