Empowering Veterans: Meet the Impact Makers in the Community

In the mission to support our veterans, programs that facilitate healing and transition are crucial. One such initiative is the DIRECTV Veterans Council Suicide Awareness Program known as Suicide Awareness Veterans Engaged (S.A.V.E.). This comprehensive program is designed to provide essential support to veterans grappling with mental health challenges. By focusing on awareness and validation of experiences, the S.A.V.E. program empowers participants to reclaim their narratives and work towards recovery, wellness, and resilience.

At the forefront of these efforts in the Los Angeles area is Tess Banko, a Marine Corps veteran and the Community Director for West LA Veterans Collective and U.S. Vets. With her extensive experience and deep understanding of the challenges faced by veterans, Tess is committed to transforming the West LA VA North Campus into the largest permanent supportive housing and services community in the nation for homeless and at-risk veterans and their families. Her background in nonprofit leadership and community organizing adds a unique lens to her approach, allowing her to connect personally with the veterans she serves.

In the latest video in the S.A.V.E. series, Tess shares her insights and experiences while discussing the impact of the Veterans Collective on veterans and their families. Tess emphasizes the importance of not just focusing on the challenges but also celebrating victories, no matter how small.

As you watch the video, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the profound effects such initiatives can have on those who have served our country.
