Who Is Gypsy Rose Blanchard?

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was known for years as a young girl confined to a wheelchair who was cared for by her loving mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. However, it was all a lie. Dee Dee abused Gypsy for years through Munchausen syndrome by proxy, forcing her to use a wheelchair and feeding tube, even though Gypsy could walk and eat. She said her daughter had Leukemia, muscular dystrophy, seizures and subjected Gypsy to unnecessary surgeries, such as removing her salivary glands.

In 2008, the mother and daughter moved to Springfield, Missouri to live in a brand-new pink house that was built for them by Habitat for Humanity. Over the years, they also received many monetary donations and even a trip to Disney World from different charities and people who wanted to help them. As Gypsy got older, her mother began to lie about her age, even going so far as to change her birth certificate.

Why Did Gypsy Rose Blanchard Go to Prison?

In 2012, Gypsy met Nick Godejohn on a Christian dating website. The two came up with a plan to kill Dee Dee so they could be together. Nick traveled from his hometown in Wisconsin to Springfield in 2015. Godejohn stabbed Dee Dee in the back 17 times as Gypsy hid in the bathroom. After staying a few days in a motel, Gypsy and Godejohn went to his home in Wisconsin. The two were arrested a few days later and the truth about Gypsy Rose being able to walk came to light.

She pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2016. Nick Godejohn was found guilty of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison. Blanchard was released early on December 28, 2023, and Gypsy Rose Life After Lockup is an up-close look at her life now that she’s free.
