Star cornerback, Joe Haden, recently hung up his cleats and retired after 12 years in the league. Most of his time on the field was spent in Pittsburgh and Cleveland but as Joe told Tony “The Closer” Robbins on his “Get Yo Ass Up” YouTube show, these days he’s more excited to be in the school drop-off line. Joe is a family man, having two adorable boys with his wife of nearly a decade, Sarah. DIRECTV was more than willing to put Joe’s stay at home dad skills to the test at the Studio for Sunday Setup.
Fox CFB sideline reporter, Jenny Taft, rallies the passionate Pro Bowler with some tough love and critiques on Joe’s game plan as he sets up for his son’s birthday party. Joe might need some cleats and his old pads with the amount of intensity he brings to decorating the mantle piece and blowing up those dang balloons. As a new mom, Jenny should be taking tips rather than dishing them because it won’t be too long before she has a 1 year old’s birthday party to plan. This got us thinking, how might other football retirees with extra time on their hands plan a party?
Check out our theories on how these other game day pros prep.
Peyton Manning
Two-time Super Bowl champion QB, Peyton Manning, might be as famous for singing catchy jingles as he is for his precision passing and leadership skills. Peyton has kept himself so busy it’s hard to call him a retiree. While in the league, he led the Broncos to their first Super Bowl in decades, even if it was a disappointing outing against the Patriots. In his post NFL life, he is a seasoned spokesman, sports commentator, former fast food franchisee and television producer (watch the full season of The Final Straw). Current Broncos’ starting quarterback, Russell Wilson, has had a rough season thus far and now suffers with a partially torn hamstring. He is primed to sit out more games than just this past Sunday’s against the Jets. The Broncos are on their way across the pond to play the Jaguars and for this I think Peyton would do well to host high tea with Russell Wilson and give him some pointers about getting the Broncos’ offense up to the performance of their defense.

Aaron Ross
Former cornerback, Aaron Ross, won Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI with the Giants but has seen a lot more soirees these days as the husband to newly appointed Real Housewife of Atlanta, Sanya Richards-Ross. The Jamaican born Sanya is a former Olympic track star and revealed the couple have quite a packed home with 9 family members all living together. That’s a lot of mouths to feed on gameday. However, if you align with the ladies of RHOA, you may want to skip the party at the Richards-Ross house. When Sanya threw together a surprise birthday party for Sheree Whitfield, the other ladies had A LOT to say. From the decor being cheap, food unappetizing and having to pour their own drinks (oh my!) the shade was thick. Watch the episode and see if you’d attend a gathering hosted by Aaron and Sanya.
