What is ‘Doc’ About?

If you’re a fan of 2012’s romantic comedy The Vow or of medical dramas, you’re going to want to check out Doc. The new series centers around Amy Larsen (Molley Parker) — a prominent doctor at Westside Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After a horrible car accident, she wakes up in the hospital she works at to find that she doesn’t remember the last eight years of her life. Suffering from partial retrograde amnesia, she can’t remember the patients she treated, the fact that she and her husband are divorced or her estranged 17-year-old daughter, who she last remembers being nine years old. Dr. Larsen has to try and put together the pieces of who she was personally and professionally.

Is ‘Doc’ Based on a True Story? 

Doc is based on the Italian series “Doc – Nelle tue mani.” The hit TV show was inspired by the true story of Dr. Pierdante Piccioni, a physician who lost 12 years of his memory after a car accident. Like the real-life story, the Italian series has a male lead character. However, the all-new American Doc TV series is providing a fresh twist by casting a female lead.
