UFC is ringing in 2025 with a can’t-miss strawweight showdown. Watch UFC Fight Night 249 on Saturday, January 11, featuring headliners Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Ribas.
This bout is the long-awaited rematch from their last UFC Fight Nigh bout, held in October 2019. At the time, both women were just starting their UFC careers, and Ribas won by a unanimous decision. Now, these two top-ranking strawweight fighters are ready to step back into the octagon to see who is truly the best.
This rematch was originally supposed to be held on December 14, 2024, during UFC Tampa, but the bout was postponed to become the first UFC headlining match of 2025. The two are vying for the first headliner win of the year and for the chance to be ranked within the top 5 women’s strawweight.
Mackenzie Dern is currently ranked #6 in the UFC women’s strawweight rankings and holds a 14-5-0 record. She is coming off her recent win against Loopy Godinez in August of 2024 and is looking to even her score with Ribas.
Amanda Ribas is currently ranked #8 and holds a 12-5-0 record. The Brazilian MMA fighter is hoping for a repeat of her match with Dern in 2019. Her last fight was in March 2024 against the former UFC Women’s Strawweight champion Rose Namajunas, which Ribas lost in a unanimous decision.
In addition to the main event, the first UFC Fight Night of 2025 is action-packed with a great lineup. From the co-main welterweight bout between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Carlston Harris to the middleweight match-up between César Almeida and Abdul Razak Alhassan, you’re not going to want to miss UFC Fight Night 249.
