Dallas Stars Rivalries

Dallas enjoys its fair share of regional rivalries, and games between the Stars and those rivals never disappoint. Here are some of the Stars’ most prominent rivalries:

Dallas Stars vs. Colorado Avalanche

This rivalry was forged during the late 1990s and early 2000s, when both teams frequently battled for Western Conference supremacy. The Stars and Avalanche met in back-to-back Western Conference Finals in 1999 and 2000, with Dallas prevailing both times. The intense playoff matchups and elite talent on both sides, including future Hall of Famers like Joe Sakic and Mike Modano, made this one of the NHL’s most exciting rivalries.

The Stars take on the Avalanche on:

  • November 29 at 9 p.m. ET on TNT, Max
  • January 18, 2025 at 4 p.m. ET
  • March 16, 2025 at 3:30 p.m. ET on TNT, truTV, Max

Dallas Stars vs. St. Louis Blues

The rivalry with the Blues has deep roots, dating back to when both teams were part of the old Norris Division. It’s known for its physicality, with memorable moments such as the “St. Patrick’s Day Massacre” in 1991, when a massive brawl broke out between the two teams. In more recent years, the rivalry reignited with several close playoff series, including St. Louis’ Game 7 win over Dallas in 2016.

Dallas and St. Louis go head-to-head on:

  • December 14 at 8 p.m. ET
  • January 25, 2025 at 7 p.m. ET
  • March 2, 2025 at 6 p.m. on TNT, truTV, Max

Dallas Stars vs. Minnesota Wild

The Stars and Wild rivalry is unique, fueled by the history of the Minnesota North Stars relocating to Dallas in 1993. Minnesota fans have long harbored resentment towards Dallas for “stealing” their team, and this has carried over into the Wild’s existence. The two teams have met in the playoffs, with Dallas winning key matchups that further fueled the animosity between the fanbases.

The Stars and the Wild clash on:

  • November 16 at 8 p.m. ET
  • December 27 at 8 p.m. ET
  • March 24 at 8 p.m. ET
  • April 6 at 3 p.m. ET on TNT, truTV, Max
