'51 Dons

The 1951 University of San Francisco football team posted an 9-0 record and featured three Hall of Fame players, all while facing challenges due to its integrated roster. Ultimately, the team chose to forego playing in a prestigious and lucrative Orange Bowl game when they were asked not to include their African-American players - and following the 1951 season the financially strapped football program was discontinued at the university following the most successful season in school history.
