To Please a Lady (1950)

Years after leaving the military, fallen Marine Mike Brannan (Clark Gable) has become a notorious midget-car racer. When writer Regina Forbes (Barbara Stanwyck) hears that Brannan's dangerous moves have led to the death of an opponent, she jumps at the chance to cover the story. After Forbes skewers Brannan's recklessness in print, he is banned from the midget league. But as a disgraced Brannan turns to stunt driving to make a living, Forbes finds herself falling for her scrappy subject.
