Milquetoast greeting card writer Erwin Trowbridge (Frank McHugh) gets into a fight with his wife, Audrey (Carol Hughes), and wanders into a bar to drown his sorrows. There, he meets three gamblers (Sam Levene, Allen Jenkins, Teddy Hart) and endears himself to them with his knack for picking winning horses. The gamblers, realizing that Erwin's skill is indeed useful, hold him hostage in the bar for their own enrichment, while both his wife and his boss search for him frantically.
