Gary Conway (William Elliott) joins the ranks of the Texas Rangers, even though his brother has been killed in a recent altercation with the lawmen. He is immediately suspected of carrying out a revenge killing when the son of Rangers leader Capt. Banning (Jack Holt) is slain. Conway must clear his name by finding the real killer, an effort that leads him to the murky realm of Beau Laroux (Bruce Cabot), a fixer working in cahoots with corrupt Texas Sen. Clarke Faulkner (Joseph Schildkraut).
