J.D. McAllister (Ole Olsen) and Charles Watson (Chic Johnson) are two con men on the road in search of their next target. After a trip to the town of Chesterville, the duo, with help from their secretary, Gertie (Joyce Compton), decide to buy a vacant lot and drum up money by pretending the worthless land is actually an oil field. They attract several investors and are soon the talk of the town. But, as it becomes clear the well isn't going to produce oil any time soon, the townspeople rebel.
