Golf was first played at historic St. Andrews in the 15th century. Which is why the Old Course on the northeast coast of Scotland is said to be the original home of golf. Thursday, July 14, the Open Championship (also called the British Open) will return to St. Andrews to commemorate its 150th anniversary. The last major of the year will be one to remember.

Will Tiger Woods Play?
Three-time Open winner Tiger Woods has announced that he will play at St. Andrews, where he won twice before. Looking at the British Open odds according to Caesars Sportsbook, Tiger is a 40-1 underdog and had to withdrawal from the PGA Championship in May after a poor round and physical ailments than prevented him from playing at a high level. But the news of Woods’ intention to compete next week has already boosted interest in the event. Just the chance of seeing Tiger in contention on Sunday is a thrilling prospect for golf fans.

Who Are the Favorites?
The PGA’s second-ranked Rory McIlroy is in peak form and will tee off as the tournament favorite at 9-1, though he has not won a major since 2014. Just behind McIlroy are the world’s third-ranked Jon Rahm and fifth-ranked Justin Thomas at 11-1 and 14-1, respectively. The world’s top ranked player and this year’s Masters champion, Scottie Scheffler, finished second at the U.S. Open and is slotted in at 12-1. Just behind Scheffler is last year’s champion and fourth-ranked Collin Morikawa at 18-1. Popular past major winners Jordan Spieth (22-1), Dustin Johnson (28-1), and Brooks Koepka (35-1) are slightly farther down the contenders’ list but will no doubt be a factor on the British Open leaderboard.
Did you know? The first British Open Championship was played at Prestwick in 1860 with just eight participants.

The British Open 2022 will take place next Thursday, July 14th, through Sunday, the 17th–only on NBC Sports. And don’t forget—the tournament is also in ultra high-definition 4K on channel 105.
