Marvel’s VisionQuest is giving one of the MCU’s most complex creations a story of his own.
Paul Bettany reprises his role as Vision in the new Disney+ series, which explores what happened to the android Avenger following the events of WandaVision.
Created by Terry Matalas, who is best known for showrunning 12 Monkeys and Star Trek: Picard, VisionQuest serves as the third and final installment in a Marvel television trilogy that began with WandaVision (2021) and continued with Agatha All Along (2024). The series picks up Vision’s story while further exploring the Maximoff family.
VisionQuest premieres October 13, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET on Disney+, with the first two episodes of its eight-episode season arriving together. New episodes will be released weekly on Tuesdays. Here’s everything you need to know about the new series, including its storyline, cast and characters.
You can get Disney+ included in various DIRECTV plans and stream VisionQuest as the episodes are released.
What is ‘VisionQuest’ About?
Attention: Spoilers around WandaVision, Agatha All Along and other Marvel shows and movies below!
VisionQuest follows the rebuilt version of Vision, also known as White Vision, who disappeared at the end of WandaVision after regaining his memories. When Wanda dismantled the magical Hex reality she had created around Westview, the version of Vision she brought to life disappeared along with it, leaving White Vision as the only surviving version of the android. Now living in hiding from those who want to use him as a weapon, Vision struggles to understand his identity and what it means to be more than the artificial intelligence he was created to be.
As he searches for answers, Vision turns to the AI personalities embedded in his programming, including J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H. and Ultron, the dangerous artificial intelligence responsible for his original creation.
His search for purpose quickly takes a turn for the worse when a bounty is placed on his head, forcing him to go on the run alongside Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious teenager who may have a connection to Vision’s past. With enemies pursuing him and Ultron’s influence threatening his newfound independence, Vision must confront his history while figuring out who he wants to become.

Main Cast of ‘VisionQuest’
Here’s a closer look at the main cast of VisionQuest and the characters they portray in Marvel’s new series:
Paul Bettany as Vision
Known from: Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Da Vinci Code, A Beautiful Mind, Wimbledon
Paul Bettany returns as Vision, an android created to fight alongside the Avengers who eventually developed a life, identity and family of his own. Originally created in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Vision came to life when Tony Stark and Bruce Banner uploaded the J.A.R.V.I.S. artificial intelligence into a synthetic body originally designed for Ultron. Powered by the Mind Stone embedded in his forehead, Vision possessed superhuman strength, the ability to fly, phase through solid objects and fire powerful energy beams.
Over time, Vision developed a romantic relationship with fellow Avenger Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch. Their relationship took a tragic turn in Avengers: Infinity War, when Thanos sought to collect all six Infinity Stones, including the Mind Stone that powered Vision. In an attempt to stop Thanos, Wanda reluctantly destroyed the stone, killing Vision in the process. However, Thanos used the Time Stone to reverse his death, only to rip the Mind Stone from Vision’s forehead and kill him a second time.
Vision’s story continued in WandaVision, where a grieving Wanda used her powers to create a new version of him within her magically constructed reality in Westview, New Jersey. Meanwhile, the government agency S.W.O.R.D. reconstructed and reactivated Vision’s original body, creating an emotionless, all-white version of the android known as White Vision. When the two versions confronted each other, Wanda’s Vision helped White Vision unlock his suppressed memories.
Now, VisionQuest picks up with White Vision as he attempts to understand who he is after regaining the memories of a life he no longer fully identifies with. As he searches for a sense of purpose, Vision must confront his complicated and confusing origins, his connection to Wanda and the artificial intelligence systems that helped shape his existence.
James Spader as Ultron
Known from: Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Blacklist, Boston Legal, Lincoln, The Office
James Spader returns as Ultron, the powerful artificial intelligence originally created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Designed as a global defense system capable of protecting Earth from future threats, Ultron quickly turned against his creators after concluding that humanity itself was the greatest threat to the planet.
Ultron went on to build an army of robotic drones and attempted to wipe out humanity by lifting the city of Sokovia into the sky and sending it crashing back to Earth. He also created the synthetic body that would eventually become Vision, intending to transfer his own consciousness into it. However, the Avengers intercepted the body and used J.A.R.V.I.S. to bring Vision to life instead. Ultron was ultimately defeated by the Avengers, with Vision destroying his final remaining drone.
Despite his apparent destruction, Ultron returns in VisionQuest, bringing Vision face-to-face with his creator.
Ruaridh Mollica as Thomas Shepherd / Tommy Maximoff
Known from: Sebastian, Red Rose, The Franchise, Witness Number 3, Ridley
Ruaridh Mollica joins the MCU as Thomas “Tommy” Shepherd, the reincarnated son of Wanda Maximoff and Vision. Tommy was first introduced in WandaVision alongside his twin brother, Billy, as one of the children Wanda magically created within the Westview Hex. Like his uncle Pietro Maximoff, Tommy possesses superhuman speed, while Billy inherited magical abilities similar to their mother’s.
When Wanda dismantled the Hex at the end of WandaVision, both boys disappeared along with the magical reality that sustained them. However, Agatha All Along revealed that Billy’s soul had survived and found a new home in the body of teenager William Kaplan. The series ended with Billy and Agatha setting out to find Tommy, whose soul had also survived the destruction of the Hex.
In VisionQuest, Tommy returns in a new body as Thomas Shepherd. His connection to Vision adds a personal dimension to the android’s search for identity, particularly as both characters grapple with memories of lives that no longer exist in quite the same way.
Todd Stashwick as Paladin
Known from: Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys, The Riches, Kim Possible, The Originals
Todd Stashwick joins the MCU as Paladin, a skilled mercenary and bounty hunter hired to track down White Vision. Unlike many of the superpowered characters in the Marvel universe, Paladin relies on his combat training, advanced weaponry and experience as a professional operative to take on dangerous assignments.
In Marvel Comics, Paladin is a morally ambiguous character who frequently works for whoever is willing to pay the highest price. He has crossed paths with heroes like Spider-Man and Daredevil, sometimes working alongside them and other times finding himself against them.
T’Nia Miller as Jocasta
Known from: Obey, Generation Z, The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Peripheral, The Feed
T’Nia Miller joins the MCU as Jocasta, an artificial intelligence with a complicated connection to both Ultron and Vision. In Marvel Comics, Jocasta was created by Ultron, who designed her to be his robotic companion and intended to give her the consciousness of Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp. However, Jocasta eventually turned against her creator and became an ally of the Avengers.
Like Vision, Jocasta possesses advanced artificial intelligence and a synthetic body, allowing her to think independently and develop her own sense of identity. Her comic book history closely mirrors Vision’s struggle to break free from the intentions of his creator, particularly given their shared connection to Ultron.
Lauren Morais as Lisa Molinari
Known from: The Red King, The Crow Girl, Tree on a Hill, Mudtown
Lauren Morais joins the MCU as Lisa Molinari, a new character introduced in VisionQuest. Unlike several of the series’ other characters, Lisa does not have an established history in Marvel Comics, making her role in the story something of a mystery.
Supporting Cast of ‘VisionQuest’
In addition to its main stars, VisionQuest features several supporting cast members, including familiar faces from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S.
Known from: Avengers: Endgame, Dunkirk, Oppenheimer, Cloud Atlas, An American Haunting
James D’Arcy joins VisionQuest as J.A.R.V.I.S., the artificial intelligence system originally developed by Tony Stark to assist him with everything from managing his technology to operating his Iron Man suits. Short for “Just A Rather Very Intelligent System,” J.A.R.V.I.S. served as Tony’s trusted digital assistant throughout the early MCU films, with Paul Bettany providing the character’s voice before taking on the role of Vision.
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, J.A.R.V.I.S. was seemingly destroyed by Ultron, but his programming survived and was eventually uploaded into the synthetic body that became Vision.
D’Arcy previously portrayed Edwin Jarvis, Tony Stark’s father’s human butler, in Agent Carter and Avengers: Endgame. The J.A.R.V.I.S. system was named in his honor, making D’Arcy’s casting a connection between the human character and the AI he inspired. In VisionQuest, J.A.R.V.I.S. returns in human form.
Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y.
Known from: Into the Badlands, Fringe, The Foreigner, American Horror Story, Family Law
Orla Brady joins the MCU as F.R.I.D.A.Y., the artificial intelligence assistant Tony Stark developed to replace J.A.R.V.I.S. after the latter’s programming became part of Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Short for “Female Replacement Intelligent Digital Assistant Youth,” F.R.I.D.A.Y. became Tony’s primary AI companion, helping him operate his Iron Man suits, analyze threats and navigate dangerous situations.
Originally voiced by Kerry Condon, F.R.I.D.A.Y. appeared in several MCU films, including Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The system played an important role in Tony’s missions, providing tactical information and assisting him during battles against some of the Avengers’ most powerful enemies.
Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H.
Known from: Schitt’s Creek, 12 Monkeys, Cosmopolis, The Rig, Mother!, Snow Cake
Emily Hampshire joins the MCU as E.D.I.T.H., an advanced artificial intelligence system created by Tony Stark and introduced in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Short for “Even Dead, I’m The Hero,” E.D.I.T.H. was designed to give its user access to Stark’s extensive surveillance network, advanced defense technology and an arsenal of weaponized drones.
Following Tony’s death in Avengers: Endgame, control of E.D.I.T.H. was passed to Peter Parker through a pair of high-tech glasses. However, Peter unknowingly handed the technology over to Quentin Beck, also known as Mysterio, who used its capabilities to stage elaborate illusions and carry out attacks. Peter eventually regained control of the system after defeating Beck.
Originally voiced by Dawn Michelle King, E.D.I.T.H. takes on a human appearance in VisionQuest, with Hampshire bringing the AI to life on screen. Unlike J.A.R.V.I.S. and F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H. was developed with extensive surveillance and weapons capabilities, making her innately more dangerous.
Henry Lewis as D.U.M.-E
Known from: Peter Pan Goes Wrong, The Goes Wrong Show, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin
Henry Lewis joins the MCU as D.U.M.-E, one of Tony Stark’s earliest robotic creations and a longtime fixture of his workshop. Also known as Dum-E or Dummy, the robotic arm first appeared in the original Iron Man, where it assisted Tony as he developed and tested his Iron Man armor.
Unlike Tony’s more sophisticated AI systems, D.U.M.-E was designed to perform relatively simple tasks around the workshop, often with less-than-perfect results. The robot became a recurring source of comic relief, frequently frustrating Tony with its clumsy attempts to help. Despite his complaints, Tony maintained a clear attachment to his creation, even saving D.U.M.-E from the destruction of his Malibu home in Iron Man 3.
Jonathan Sayer as U
Known from: Peter Pan Goes Wrong, The Goes Wrong Show, A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong
Jonathan Sayer joins the MCU as U, another of Tony Stark’s robotic assistants who worked alongside D.U.M.-E in his workshop. First introduced in Iron Man, U is a mechanical arm designed to help Tony build, repair and maintain his technology, including his Iron Man suits.
Like D.U.M.-E, U is a relatively simple robot compared to Tony’s more advanced artificial intelligence systems. The two robotic assistants frequently worked together in Tony’s workshop, providing a source of comic relief as Tony developed increasingly sophisticated technology.
Diane Morgan
Known from: Mandy, Cunk on Life, Me Before You, After Life, Frayed, Pat & Cabbage
Diane Morgan joins the cast of VisionQuest in a role that has yet to be officially revealed. The British actress and comedian is best known for portraying the deadpan fictional documentary presenter Philomena Cunk in Cunk on Earth and Cunk on Life, as well as her roles in After Life and Mandy.
Polly Frame
Known from: Half Light, Holby City, The Crown, The Great
Polly Frame also joins the cast of VisionQuest in an undisclosed role. The Scottish actress has appeared in a variety of film and television productions, including the historical dramas The Crown and The Great, as well as the British medical drama Holby City.
